Kristy Kate Shutts M.D.

Dr. Shutts is board-certified pediatrician. She lives in Floyd County with her husband and two children. She graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Biology and attended medical school and completed her pediatric residency training at the University of Kentucky. Dr Shutts has been practicing pediatrics since 2003 and joined Frontier Medical Assoicates in 2019. She loves pediatrics because it allows her to build relationships with families and watch children grow over the years.

Susie Howard, APRN

Susie is a dedicated Family Nurse Practitioner with over 18 years of experience specializing in pediatric care. She began her nursing journey at Prestonsburg Community College, where she earned her associate degree in 1995. She then went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Morehead State University in 2003, followed by a master's degree from Eastern Kentucky University in 2007. Originally from Floyd County, Susie now resides in Johnson County, where she finds great fulfillment in serving her community and caring for children every day. As a mother of two, Logan and Braley, she understands the importance of compassionate, family-centered care.

Nakeesha Layne, PA-C

Nakeesha is a resident of Prestonsburg, KY. She is a graduate of the University of Kentucky Physican Assistant Program, class of 2017. She began working in Pediatrics directly after graduation. She is also an alum from Big Sandy Community and Technical College with an associate degree in science as well as the University of Pikeville where she majored in Biology. She is married to her husband Tyler, and they have three children together. She enjoys all age groups she gets to work with. Seeing her patients smile even when they don't feel well brings her joy. She is able to leave the clinic each day, thankful for the opportunity to serve her community as a health care provider. She enjoys being involved in community events and promoting health to the Eastern Kentucky Region. Nakeesha has served in Kenya helping to offer healthcare to serve the people of East Africa. When not practicing medicine, Nakeesha enjoys spending time with her family, camping, and traveling.

Mary Lez Perry, MSN, APRN, FNP-C

Mary Lez Perry, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, is a dedicated healthcare professional known for her commitment to compassionate patient care and clinical excellence. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in the Philippines from 2010 to 2014, where she built the strong foundation for her nursing career.

After moving to the United States, Mary began working as a staff nurse at ARH Hazard, gaining valuable clinical experience while caring for diverse patient populations. She later transitioned into travel nursing, expanding her clinical expertise while serving patients in various healthcare settings.

Mary’s dedication to nursing and her patients has been recognized through prestigious honors, including the 2023 DAISY Award at Pikeville Medical Center, which celebrates extraordinary nurses who demonstrate compassion and excellence in patient care. She was the very first agency nurse at the facility to ever receive this award, highlighting her exceptional commitment to her patients and profession.

While actively working as a nurse, Mary pursued advanced education and completed her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from 2019 to 2021. In 2022, she achieved another milestone by becoming a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C).

Today, Mary serves her community as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, combining compassion, clinical experience and dedication to improving patient outcomes and delivering quality healthcare.

Andrea Jones, PA-C

Andrea is from Paintsville, KY, where she lives with her husband and four children. She has been a Physician Assistant for 19 years and has experience in internal medicine, family medicine, and pediatrics. She is passionate about mental health for all ages, especially young people. She also has a particular interest in developmental pediatrics and adolescent medicine. Making every patient feel comfortable and cared for is her primary goal.

Melissa Slone, LPCC

Melissa has 20+ years of experience working with children of all ages. Much of this time has been in a counseling setting. Melissa has a MEd in Mental Health Counseling and an MA in School Counseling P-12. She is a Kentucky Licensed Professional Counselor (LPCC) and specializes in working with children with anxiety.

Sabrina Duncan, LPCC-S

Sabrina brings over a decade of experience as a licensed clinical counselor, with specialties in trauma-informed care, EMDR, motivational interviewing, and family systems. She’s passionate about helping individuals and families heal, grow, and reconnect in meaningful ways.
